About IPSS

Garissa University Institute of Peace and Security Studies (GaU IPSS) was established in January 2020 at
University’s main campus with support from Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC) to
professionalize and promote peace, security and conflict resolution mechanisms within the region and
beyond.

IPSS Objectives

  1.  Capacity build society on peace, security and conflict management
  2. Enhance research-extension-community/stakeholder networking and linkages
  3. Execute peace, security and conflict management studies in the region
  4. Domesticate innovative policies and laws for FCDC and the region, and addresscomplexities  related to porous and cross border issues
  5.  Strengthen customary structures and bylaws for peaceful co-existence and sustainable management of the environment and natural resources
  6.  Capacity build sexperts on environmental impact assessment as a tool for conflict management
  7.  Promote adaptation and mitigation to climate change issues that build peace and resolves conflicts
  8.  Support initiatives on peace building, security & conflict management in the region
  9.  Promote right based approaches for peace building in the region  Build a regional database on peace, security and conflict management.
